In March 2008, Alison Hellesvig had a dream that quickly became a unique new abstract art form. Since then she has created nearly 50 pieces of abstract art, each a one-of-a-kind hand cut and woven design. At the encouragement of her mother and a friend, she displayed her work at a local church gallery in early 2009. Several pieces were sold; Kaleidosculpture was officially born.
Although photographs do not do justice to the color, depth, or detail of her work, we will post pictures on this site to introduce you to Alison's creations.
Alison works with textured or flecked acid-free scrapbooking paper in vibrant color combinations. Once she selects colors, she plans strip shapes and sizes to cut and weave into a foreground. The strips are woven into place, not glued. She then cuts away foreground between the strips, and selects colors to create complementary and striking layers in the background. The final step in the process is naming each piece based on its final appearance. |
